When you hear SPF, what do you think of: Sun Protection Factor or Sender Policy
Framework? Both are important in daily life, but today we are going to talk about Sender
Policy Framework along with a couple of other settings to ensure better e-mail deliverability.
We recently received reports that some of our clients are not receiving e-mails from their
contacts even though they received e-mails from the same people in the past. Recently,
many e-mail providers (Google, Microsoft, Yahoo, etc.) enforced settings to reduce e-mail
spoofing. Unfortunately, there is very little that the recipient can do to enable e-mails to be
delivered, and the sender will need to check their settings for SPF, DomainKeys Identified
Mail (DKIM), and Domain-based Message Authentication Reporting and Conformance
(DMARC).
SPF records allow receiving servers to check whether an e-mail with the specified source
domain was sent from a server authorized by the owner of the domain.
DKIM adds a digital signature to each message. This allows the receiving server to check if
the message has been sent from an authorized sender, faked, or changed upon delivery.
DMARC is an email authentication standard designed to prevent unauthorized use of an
organization’s domain.
The sender’s e-mail provider or IT professional should be able to assist with these settings.
